Housing
In order to apply for temporary protection in the Czech Republic, you must secure accommodation in advance. This is long-term accommodation (at least for a month), which you will be able to prove with a rental agreement or confirmation of accommodation provision (the owner’s signature on this form must be officially verified). We recommend that anyone planning to rent an apartment in Prague or another city in the Czech Republic watch the recording of our webinar on this topic — you will find answers to key questions and many useful links there. You can also find accommodation contracts for download on our website: Rental Agreement, Sublease Agreement.
If you do not have accommodation yet, you can use state humanitarian accommodation, which is provided free of charge for 90 days from the granting of temporary protection. From 1.1. 2024, this form of accommodation can only be applied for at the Regional Assistance Center for Ukraine (KACPU) in Ostrava (Moravian-Silesian Region) on official days; the address and schedule can be found here. If you arrive outside office hours, you may be temporarily accommodated in a short-term hostel located at the same address.
In KACPU, you may be assigned humanitarian accommodation anywhere in the Czech Republic except Prague, and you will have to arrive there independently and at your own expense. It is not possible to choose a region, city or hostel. Only the objective needs of the applicant (e.g. barrier-free access for a person in a wheelchair) or a spouse, minor child or lonely relative who need permanent care and are accommodated in a certain city (provided that there are free capacities there) can be taken into account. If you refuse the offered accommodation, do not arrive there or leave the accommodation, you will lose your right to state humanitarian accommodation and will not be able to receive any other. You can find out more about humanitarian accommodation here.
If you were living in emergency accommodation for free before 1.9. 2024 and are now looking for rental housing, you can use financial assistance for the deposit, real estate agency commission, first rent, household equipment, etc. More information about the AMIF project in Ukrainian and contacts of organizations to contact in your region can be found here. If you are unable to pay the deposit, you can also apply for extraordinary immediate assistance (MOP) or contact the Women for women fund (assistance for single parents).
If you currently have temporary accommodation secured and are looking for long-term accommodation, fill out the form on the Refugees Welcome platform. We will contact you in the coming weeks with further steps. However, we must warn you that the offer of accommodation is currently very limited, especially in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, where the coordination team primarily operates.
If, on the other hand, you plan to offer rental accommodation to refugees, fill out this form on the Refugees Welcome platform. We will contact you soon with further steps. Our employees are working hard to make the right connections and provide support to both parties in every situation.
If you are accommodated in state humanitarian accommodation and are now considering how to secure your own housing, you have the opportunity to use financial assistance with the transition to rental housing. You can use this form of assistance only if you live in a region where it is provided. Assistance in these regions will be provided by the relevant non-profit organizations.
More information on the topic of rental housing in the Czech Republic can be found on our separate website Handbook for Renting Accommodation. The aim of this manual is to help you navigate the area of rental housing in the Czech Republic. Whether you are looking for an apartment, dealing with a rental agreement, or want to know your rights, this website is here for you. Link HERE.
