Support to Ukraine

We intensively support the adaptation and integration of war refugees from Ukraine through individual counseling, fieldwork, and organizing thematic trainings and workshops. In this regard, we also support public institutions working with the refugee community, as well as striving to promote legislative and systemic changes.

Even three years after the start of the war, Ukraine remains the most common country of origin of our clients — persons with temporary protection from Ukraine make up more than a third of all those we provide support to. For this reason, we purposefully adapt our activities to their needs: our counselors communicate in Ukrainian, and our website, social networks, and selected materials offer content in this language.

Our team of field workers regularly visits boarding houses, monitors local conditions, and assists the most vulnerable with their burning needs related to health, social support, housing, and employment. We are also active in the so-called online field, where we share verified information, education and opportunities to participate in our events in a number of Facebook and Telegram groups.

Program in numbers since the beginning of the war:

  • In 2022, we coordinated the crisis situation in front of the Labor Office in Holešovice and supported 920 refugees together with other organizations.
  • As part of the Lex Ukraine V law approved in 2022, we managed to push through the expansion of the definition of vulnerable groups of refugees and thus better target state support.
  • A total of 2,184 clients received support from us in the area of accommodation and housing.
  • Almost 600 people found temporary safety in sheltered housing for Ukrainian refugees with children, the so-called Simi Hotel, which we established shortly after the war.
  • We managed to individually accommodate over 250 refugees from Ukraine through the Refugees Welcome platform connecting voluntary offers and demands for accommodation.
  • Up to 840 people and their family members received support in hostels in 2024 alone, when we spent over 1,000 hours of fieldwork through counselling and assistance.
  • 32% of all supported clients are persons with temporary protection.

Objectives:

The objective of the Support to Ukraine program is to contribute to improving the conditions of refugees from Ukraine in the Czech Republic, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable. The program also aims to strengthen the adaptation and integration process of these people, in the area of housing and settlement, support the process of social inclusion and increase their awareness of rights and related obligations through long-term, interrelated activities.

To achieve these goals, we will focus primarily on the implementation of the following activities:

  • Free legal and social counseling and intercultural work services for refugees from Ukraine
  • Psychosocial support provided through individual consultations or group therapies
  • Thematic training and workshops focused primarily on topics related to orientation and integration in the Czech environment
  • Creation and dissemination of information materials both in the field and online. The content always corresponds to the most current issues that refugees in the Czech Republic are dealing with. In the recent past, for example, we have prepared a Manual for Finding Rental Accommodation (not only) for Migrants or a Handbook for m igrants in boarding houses.
