Women in Migration
We have a long-standing commitment to reducing the unequal status of migrant and refugee women. Our focus is primarily on issues of health, work, care and the prevention and elimination of gender-based violence.
Programme in numbers:
- Since 2020, we have supported more than 3,500 women through our counselling services.
- Since 2022, we have held 19 workshops for 123 migrant and refugee women.
- Since 2022, we have organized 7 events for 141 professionals.
- Since 2022, we have published 31 articles on the Simi blog.
- Since 2022, we have published 4 info-materials.
Objectives:
Our goal is to support the social, economic and cultural inclusion of migrant women by strengthening their skills, ensuring equal access to education, employment and health care, and creating a safe environment for their full integration into majority society. The programme is based on the principles of protecting women’s rights, preventing discrimination and violence and empowering migrant women and strengthening their role in society.
In order to achieve the objectives, we focus on, among others, the following activities:
- Free professional counselling and intercultural work services for migrant and refugee women
- Educational workshops on economic opportunities and orientation in the labour market, access to health care, reproductive health, coordination of work and care, etc.
- Community workshops promoting sharing and belonging, focusing on violence prevention, assertive communication, modern self-defence, empowerment, burnout prevention, etc.
- Expert seminars for professionals or the wider public on current topics (e.g. working with victims of violence, health in migration)
- Suggestions for legislative measures for policy makers and other actors that would facilitate the life of migrant women in the Czech Republic
- Participation in the activities of Czech and European NGO networks and developing interdisciplinary cooperation
- Informing the public (through information materials, articles on the blog Bez vrásek and Fair Migration Policy, social media Facebook, Instagram)
