Humanitarian allowance

Persons granted temporary protection can apply for a special humanitarian benefit (hereinafter referred to as HuD), the amount of which is reduced after 150 days for everyone except vulnerable persons. HuD is a component of the so-called eligible housing costs — partial compensation of rent by the state. The website of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has an indicative calculator that you can use to calculate how much assistance you will receive from the state based on your household income (persons with temporary protection who live together and must submit a joint application by law).

If you pay for your accommodation, your housing costs will be included in HuD, regardless of the actual amount of rent. These are CZK 6,000 per month for vulnerable persons, CZK 4,000 per month for others. Attention! For persons with temporary protection who live in a hostel or in an apartment that is not registered in https://ebs.mpsv.cz, in order to determine the eligible housing costs in the humanitarian benefit, it is necessary to prove that they are registered as job seekers or gainfully employed, or belong to vulnerable persons for whom activity is not required.

In the month in which you receive temporary protection, you can submit an application at a branch of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic in your place of residence, then always online, except for clearly defined situations (e.g. applications for children represented by a person without a temporary protection or a legal entity). To authorize in the application and submit an application online, you will need a bank identity (ask an employee of the Czech bank that you are a client about this option) or an eGovernment Mobile Key.

The benefit is paid by transfer to a payment account in a bank, a branch of a foreign bank or a savings and credit union in the Czech Republic, with the exception of the benefit for the calendar month in which you were granted temporary protection, which can be paid in cash. The benefit is not paid abroad.

At the same time, it is newly applicable that if the holder of temporary protection / tolerance visa is not present at the reported address for more than 15 days, the information on the reported stay in the information system may be cancelled, which may lead, among other things, to the loss of entitlement to the humanitarian benefit.
