Permanent residence
You can apply for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of finding a job or starting a business if you are a graduate of an accredited study program at a university in the Czech Republic or a researcher whose research has ended in the Czech Republic. The application must be submitted in person at the Ministry of the Interior office according to your registered place of residence.
What to attach to the application

- Travel document
- 1 photo (35 mm x 45 mm)
- Proof of accommodation for the duration of the stay
- Proof of funds for the stay
- Certificate of completion of studies or research

- Max. 9 months

- 60 days from the date of application

- Acceptance of application 2,500 CZK
You can request a change in the purpose of your stay if you want to stay in the territory for a purpose other than the one you were permitted to do, but only under special conditions.
- If you entered the territory for the purpose of family cohabitation – a change of purpose is possible after 3 years of residence in the territory or after reaching the age of 18, however, there are exceptions: (1) in the case of divorce, it is possible to change the purpose of residence, if you have been residing in the territory for at least 3 years on the date of divorce and (2) in the case of the death of the sponsor of residence, it is possible to change the purpose of residence, if you have been residing in the territory for at least 2 years on the date of the death of the sponsor of residence or if the death occurred as a result of an accident at work of the sponsor of residence, it is possible to change the purpose without restrictions; the purpose must be changed within 1 year of death.
- Change to the purpose of business – is possible at the earliest after 5 years of residence in the territory, holders of a long-term visa for the purpose of business and holders of a residence permit for the purpose of job search can apply for a long-term residence for the purpose of business without restrictions on the length of stay in the territory.
- Holders of a long-term residence for the purpose of tolerance – the change is possible at the earliest after 3 years of continuous residence in the territory.
- Stay for the purpose of protection in the territory – change is possible after fulfilling the purpose of stay or after one year of stay in the territory.
- Change for the purpose of finding a job or starting a business – this type of stay can only be applied for if you hold a long-term residence permit for the purpose of studying in an accredited university program or for the purpose of scientific research and at the same time successfully complete this study or scientific research.
