Healthcare in the Czech Republic is based on public health insurance, which is mandatory for all citizens and paid for by contributions from employees, employers and the state. The system ensures broad access to medical services, including primary, specialized and hospital care. Most medical services are fully covered by insurance companies, but patients pay extra for, for example, some medications, advanced services or dental procedures.

Basic information about the provision of healthcare in the Czech Republic can be found on the website of the Ministry of Health HERE.

If you need emergency medical care

If you cannot find a general practitioner for adults or children, contact your health insurance company, which will send you a list of surgeries in your area that have free capacity. In the event of unavailability of healthcare, you can fill out a form called “Complaint about unavailability of healthcare”, which will contact the Ministry of Health and the insurance company, which will send you a list of doctors.
